To increase capacity, secure safety and improve the experience students have on campus, several constructions projects, renovations or demolitions have taken place recently.

Hart Swimming Pool Construction

Over the summer, a new filtration system was installed in the Hart Pool. New pumps, filters, and chlorine treatments were all added as part of the installation. The pool will now be using liquid chlorine as opposed to the gas chlorine that was used previously. The liquid chlorine is a safer way to treat the pool water. The swimming pool reopened on September 16.

Auxiliary Gym Remodel

The projected plan for replacing the auxiliary gym with dance studios is underway. Demolition started in the hallway by taking out the offices adjoining the gym. Men’s and women’s locker rooms are also being remodeled. Locker rooms are still accessible during the fall semester renovation. The wrestling room will be relocated to one of the rooms on the basement level. The Dance Department is expected to move into the new space in time for Fall 2020.

University Village Community Center

Three different construction projects took place at University Village this summer: air conditioning installation, groundbreaking of a new community center, and replacement of stairwells and rails. By mid-September, all of the apartment units will have air conditioning. Construction has also begun on a new community center to serve as a gathering place for residents and their families. The community center will be completed by Fall 2020. Stairs and stair rails were replaced in four of the buildings.

New Ceramics Lab Building

A new ceramics building will soon be constructed on part of the footprint of the former Kirkham Building. All ceramics classes have been temporarily relocated to the Benson Building until the new building is completed.
