The Scottish rock group Skerryvore will perform Friday, October 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Back for an encore performance, the band is a two-time winner of Scotland’s traditional music “Live Act of the Year” Award.
“The band was one of our most popular concerts last year,” said Don Sparhawk, coordinator of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series. “A lot of students requested they come back, but they wanted a better place to stand and dance. So we have moved the concert to the Hart Auditorium where people can dance on the floor.”
The band creates a unique fusion of folk, trad, rock and Americana that represents all the different personalities and upbringing of the eight band members who hail from different regions of Scotland. 2017 saw the release of its single “Live Forever” that provided the soundtrack for the Scottish tourism promotional campaign “Wild About Argyll” and saw the single hit No.1 in the iTunes World Music chart.
Back on the remote Scottish island of Tiree in 2005, the raw, but contemporary trad quartet that formed Skerryvore, could have only dreamed that over the next decade they would become a multi-award winning act that was performing in over 25 countries worldwide.
From those traditional roots, the band has developed, both in size and sound, to create a unique fusion of their traditional music and songs, with the urban sounds of rock, pop and funk.
With their outstanding musicianship and the mesmerizing voice of award-winning singer-songwriter Alec Dalglish, Skerryvore has become an international sensation, performing in cities such as Dubai, Beijing, Shanghai, Madrid, Munich and New York. The band’s high-energy shows have also featured at many premier festivals, both at home and abroad.
Tickets for the Center Stage concert are $12 for the general public and $6 for BYU-Idaho students for either standing or chair sections. Tickets can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling (208) 496-3170 or online at tickets.byui.edu.
