Having access to Wi-Fi is critical to your success as a student at Brigham Young University–Idaho. Whether you are on a Chromebook or a Windows or Mac computer, setting up your Wi-Fi is just a few steps away. Take a look at our basic step-by-step tutorials below.
 

NOTE: You will not need to do this every time you want to access the BYU-Idaho wireless network campus. This is only for the first time you connect your computer to the campus network.


Chromebook Wireless Setup

  1. Double-click the wireless icon in the lower right-hand corner of the desktop.
  2. Choose the "BYUI" network.
  3. A new window will open. In the EAP Method drop-down menu, select "PEAP."
  4. In the CA Certificate drop-down menu, select "Do not check."
  5. Enter your BYU-Idaho username into the "Identity" field. 
  6. Enter your BYU-Idaho password into the "Password" field.
  7. Click "Connect."

Windows Wireless Setup

Windows 10 Wireless Setup

  1. Access your computer's system tray and click the "Network" icon.
  2. Select the "BYUI" network. 
    NOTE: Make sure you've selected the "Connect automatically" option so that this network will always be available to you from now on.     
  3. Click "Connect." 

Windows XP Wireless Setup

  1. Double-click the wireless icon in the lower right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Click "Change Advanced Settings."
  3. A new window will open. Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
  4. Click the "Add..." button.
  5. A form will appear. Fill it out like this:
    • Type "BYUI" in the "Network Name" box.
    • Use the "WPA2" option in the "Network Authentication" box. If you don't have that option, use "WPA."
  6. Click "Authentication."
  7. Change the EAP type to "PEAP."
  8. Click "Properties."
  9. Click "Configure." There will be a box that pops up with a checked box in it.  Uncheck the box.
  10. Click "OK" on every open window.
  11. Once you've clicked "OK" on all the boxes, wait a few seconds and a bubble will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the page.
  12. Fill out the form using your NetID. Your NetID is the same username you use to log into BYU-Idaho's website to check your account, register for classes, log into I-Learn, etc. Use the same password you use to log in to www.byui.edu.
  13. Enter your BYU-Idaho login credentials in their respective boxes. Leave the domain blank. Leave the "Logon domain" blank.
  14. Once you've entered your username (NetID) and password, a bubble will appear in the lower right again. Click it.
  15. Click "OK." 

Mac Wireless Setup

Mac OSX Wireless Setup (Using AirPort)

Mac OS X Snow Leopard:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top-left-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Select "System Preferences..." from the drop-down menu. This will open the "System Preferences" window.
  3. Click "Network."
  4. Click "AirPort" in the left-hand column of the screen.
  5. Locate the "Network Name" drop-down menu, click it, and choose the "BYUI" wireless network.
  6. A popup will appear asking you to enter a wireless network password. Enter your BYU-Idaho password, then click "OK."
    NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save BYU-Idaho's network information.
  7. Click "Apply."

Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or El Capitan:

  1. Click the Apple logo in the top-left-hand corner of your screen.
  2. Select "System Preferences..." from the drop-down menu. This will open the "System Preferences" window.
  3. Click "Network" in the "System Preferences" window.
  4. Click "Wi-Fi" in the left-hand column of the screen.
  5. Locate the "Network Name" drop-down menu, click it, and choose the "BYUI" wireless network.
  6. A prompt will pop up asking you to enter a wireless network password. Enter your BYU-Idaho password, then click "OK." NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save BYU-Idaho's network information. 
  7. At the next popup, enter your Mac's login information–NOT your BYU-Idaho login information. 
  8. Click "Apply."

Mac OSX Wireless Setup (Using the Wi-Fi Icon)

Mac OS X Snow Leopard:

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. A drop-down menu will appear listing all available wireless networks. Choose "BYUI."
  3. A popup will appear asking you to enter a wireless network password. Enter your BYU-Idaho password, then click "OK."

NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save BYU-Idaho's network information. 

Mac OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or El Capitan:

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right-hand corner of your screen.
  2. A drop-down menu will appear listing all available wireless networks networks. Choose "BYUI."
  3. A prompt will pop up asking you to enter a wireless network password. Enter your BYU-Idaho password, then click "OK."
    NOTE: Click the box next to "Remember this network" in order to save BYU-Idaho's network information. 
  4. You will receive a certification popup. Click "Continue."
  5. At the next popup, enter your Mac's login information–NOT your BYU-Idaho login information.
