Those applying to the program can also apply for the fire internship if they have taken PARA 171. There are six students chosen each fall and the commitment is from September 1st of the fall semester entering into the Paramedic Program until August 31st of the following year. Every 6th day you will run a 24 hour shift as a Firefighter/EMT with the Rexburg Madison Fire Department. This means that you will miss class on the days that you are on shift, and will need to be self-motivated to study the material on your own time. In return for your work as an intern, the cost of your tuition plus $200.00 each semester to defray your costs for books will be awarded. When you submit your application to the Paramedic Program, please include a simple letter indicating you would like to be considered for the fire internship. This is a binding contract for the year. Please do not apply if you cannot meet the obligation.
Exposure to self-defense, tactical medicine, scuba diving, and flight ride-alongs with Air Idaho Rescue are just a few of the different opportunities you may have in the Paramedic Program.
