DESCRIPTION: An introduction to the basics of industrial hygiene, specifically the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of workplace environmental factors that may affect the health, comfort, or productivity of the worker.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to: 1) have a basic understanding of industrial hygiene and how it can affect their work place, 2) understand the different types of worker exposure: chemical, physical, biological, etc., 3) set up industrial hygiene sampling trains and calculate optimum flow rate and sample times, 4) calibrate various types of personal and area sampling pumps, 5) perform a variety of industrial hygiene calculations, 6) recognize basic engineering controls, 7) understand basic ventilation systems.
