Talent Activities provide opportunities for student to organize and run exciting shows. There are also workshops led by students who share their skills and knowledge while helping others explore and discover talents of their own.

Area Director

Area Director

A Student Area Director oversees an entire area of Activities. Student Area Directors are primarily responsible for teaching, training, and empowering the Student Directors in their area. They also meet with other Student Area Directors to counsel about Activities-wide issues.

 

Coordinator

Coordinators

Though not involved in the tactical planning and execution of events, coordinators oversee specific programs in Activities. They lead, train, counsel and help managers succeed as they run programs and events.
 

Director

Director Responsibilities

The Student Director for Talent Exploration Board would be responsible for teaching and training coordinators who would be ultimately responsible for providing opportunities for students to explore their talents in such areas as art, music, dance and theater. This position would involve at least three meetings per week which would include a Talent Performance Board meeting, an Activities Council Meeting and a meeting with the adviser. Other meetings with coordinators would probably be needed. A Student Director could expect to put in at least ten hours per week. An applicant should have had previous experience on the Talent Exploration Board at a manager or coordinator level.

Such events include Guitars Unplugged, Nashville Nights, Grand Pianos Live, Broadway Revue, etc. as well as non-auditioned opportunities such as Music Outlet. The Student Director would be responsible for making sure standards and policies are maintained and that there is a wholesome and uplifting atmosphere at these events. This position would involve at least three meetings per week which would include a Talent Performance Board meeting, an Activities Council Meeting and a meeting with the adviser. Other meetings with coordinators would probably be needed. A Student Director could expect to put in at least ten hours per week. An applicant should have had previous experience on the Talent Performance Board at a manager or coordinator level.

 

Cannot have more than 129 credits total

Must have at least a 2.5 GPA

Must be a full time, on-track student

 

Manager

Managers are required to meet weekly throughout the entire semester with the Talent Performance Board, as well as hold an additional weekly planning meeting with their committee until the show is over.  There will also be some additional time devoted to carrying out various assignments related to the show, pertaining to auditions, set-up, etc.

Theatre Workshops
Student managers would most likely participate through acting in a student written and student directed play.  There is some commitment involved as most productions take between 6 and 12 weeks to run.

Broadway Review
Popular Broadway hits make this a popular show among students.  The manager would be overseeing the committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include auditions, publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Acoustic Café
A smaller and much more laid back version of Guitars Unplugged, this show is held in the Manwaring Center Theater or Crossroads in a "café" atmosphere.  The manager would be overseeing the committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include auditions, publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

I-Cover
This show features cover songs in a band setting, with a minimum of three people per band.  The manager would be overseeing a committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include auditions, publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Battle of the Dance
Contrary to the name, there is no battle, but there is a lot of fun dancing involving everything from Ballroom to Hip-Hop.  The manager would be overseeing a committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include auditions, publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Film Festival
This show provides an opportunity for the students who have been involved in the Film Making Workshops to show their films to the student body.  The manger would be overseeing a committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Best-of Show
This popular show combines the best-of acts from the shows held during the semester.  The manger would be overseeing a committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Grand Pianos Live
This show revolves around the piano and involves everything from classical music to pop.  The manager would be overseeing a committee and ultimately responsible for a successful show.  Responsibilities of the committee would include auditions, publicity, media services, performers meetings and other logistics involved in producing this show.

Barbershop Music
Student volunteers would most likely learn how to conduct Barbershop music from experienced directors, or they would help recruit more students who would be interested in learning how to sing Barbershop once a week.

Writing Workshop
This position would be facilitating interested students who would like to share their writings and teach each other in a weekly workshop type setting.

Dance Workshops
Student volunteers would most likely teach basic dance instruction to those students who would normally feel "awkward" learning how to dance in a more formal setting.  Dance taught will include modern, jazz, swing or ballroom.

Poetry Workshops
Student volunteers would most likely teach basic poetry guidelines on a weekly basis.

Comedy Workshops
These positions would be involved in teaching the basics of impromptu comedy with other interested students in a weekly workshop type setting.

Film-making Workshops
Student volunteers would most likely teach basic film making techniques once a week to interested students.  They may also help the student teacher by overseeing the availability of equipment and room scheduling.

Poetry Slam
This position would be facilitating interested students who would like to share their poetry and receive feedback and insights in a weekly workshop type setting.

 

 

Volunteer

Volunteer staff make up the largest group of students that help run Activities. Being a staff member is a great way to jump in and get involved, develop skills, meet people and help create exciting events and programs at BYU-Idaho. Volunteers work with managers who oversee the planning, organization and execution of specific events and programs.

Auditioned Shows Opportunities

Volunteering for these events would include helping the managers to organize events which include auditions publicity, and marketing. Duties would include weekly meetings in addition to the auditions and event. Some of the shows may include:

Acoustic Cafe (An informal show featuring Acoustic guitar in a "cafe" type setting)

Broadway Revue (A show featuring Broadway music in song, dance or theater)

Guitars Unplugged (A show featuring the guitars in a larger band setting)

I-Cover (A show featuring "cover" songs in a band setting)

Battle of the Dance (A show featuring dance)

Film Festival ( A show featuring student films)

Grand Pianos Live (A show featuring the piano)

Best of Show (The last show of the semester featuring the "best" from all of the other shows)
